Our brains are a delicate miracle stored in a protective case (skull). That miracle can be shaken, twisted, or “dinged” by any number of different events. A car crash, falling off a bike or skateboard, a hard football tackle, or an elbow to the side of the head while challenging for a header; al can result on concussive symptoms. A “concussion” is physiological and chemical changes in the brain that can result in mood changes, physical symptoms like nausea, blurred vision, poor balance and headaches, as well as sleep problems and academic struggles. Although most symptoms improve in days to weeks, sometimes there are more severe cases where students and student-athletes just don’t feel right and need assistance managing thei school responsibilities (accommodations).
